Personal Learning Plan Meeting
During May or June, each student and his or her family will meet with Mr. Lerch for an initial consultation towards the formation of the student’s personalized learning plan. We will discuss the student’s most recent academic experiences as well as their special interests. A draft learning plan will be emailed to the family during the summer for review and feedback. The learning plan is a “living document” that will be consistently updated throughout the school year based on the needs of the student.
Summer Journal
During the summer, students will begin the process of recording their thoughts on meaningful learning experiences. These will include written reflections on noteworthy activities as well as summer reading chosen by each student. As we begin school, these journals will provide the foundation for some early assignments and the first individual conference with Mr. Lerch.
Launch Night
On Monday August 15th, DBA will welcome families to campus for the official kickoff to the school year. We will enjoy some time to connect and socialize before Mr. Lerch presents the most important information for students and their parents.
Life Together Week
Beginning on Tuesday August 16th, the first week of school will be dedicated to laying the foundation for a great year. We will focus on building community and establishing the practices that will be fundamental to our success as a classroom team. Students will also engage in some introductory academic exercises in math, reading, and writing as we begin to coach them on executive functioning skills. On Friday, we will conclude with a special lunch to celebrate our first week.
